invention of the telescope - binoculars 101
Compact Nikon binoculars are the handiest and most versatile of all optical instruments I have used. invention of the telescope I've been using my Nikon Monarch Binoculars for a few years now, and I am extremely happy with them. There are three major quality factors you should examine before buying a pair of binoculars. When you are hunting, having the best equipment to guide you is absolutely crucial.
Transporting a telescope has always been a difficult assignment because the instrument is cumbersome and setup is an involved process. Will you be hunting, whale watching, or watching birds, or looking for a pair of military binoculars. You buy the telescope and go home, put it up and go to look at the Moon. Even though they are pre-moistened, they do not leave any trace of residue-causing streaks on the expensive lenses.
If you are planning on taking your binoculars on the family boat you will want a pair that is completely waterproof. If you are a backpacker or will be doing your birding on a bicycle, then you may wish to consider mid size or even compact binoculars. Binoculars can also come in very large sizes but those are usually used by more professional viewers and need to be steadied by being placed on a tripod for support. If it just for the kids to play, then go with a less expensive model that they will not break easily.
You will need a magnification factor of at least 7, maybe up to 10 if you have a steady hand. They can withstand complete immersion in water and remain dry on the inside. A telescope allows the universe to come to you, in other words objects of long distance come closer, while a microscope puts small objects to become bigger so you can see.
Magnification over ten generally causes the binoculars to lose some image crispness. Costlier monoculars with 30x or greater magnifications are made of better prisms and lenses. You can buy bird watching binoculars for as much as a thousand dollars. How well your binoculars will serve you in low light conditions is described as twilight performance.
The only negative review I have to offer that the lens caps are cheap and are nowhere near the quality of the rest of the binoculars. The lower the light situation is, the more powerful night binocular you will need. My personal experience has revealed binoculars in the two to five hundred dollar range perform well and I’ve never missed a sighting because of their quality. Many of us have looked at the moon through binoculars.
You will also need to buy an atlas of the sky suited for astronomy, and a guide. Make sure you look at the len's coating when making your purchase of binoculars.
