The "10" refers to the magnification power of the binoculars, that is, objects viewed will appear to be 10 times closer than when they are viewed by the naked eye.
Objects will appear brighter with wider lenses. They suck dirt off the lens surfaces leaving them crystal clear. They can withstand complete immersion in water and remain dry on the inside.
You will find these to be quality binoculars that won't break should you drop them. Looking in the two to five hundred dollar range when buying binoculars is the best for your money. They provide a comfortable viewing, featuring sliding eyepiece cups that are easy to adjust. Binocular lens protectors drive water off the lens surface of both objective lenses and eyepieces, helping eliminate glare caused by water droplets.
Some high end binoculars, are so well constructed that they come with a lifetime guarantee. Some of the binoculars have a greater close up focus capability. The feel of your new binoculars should be somewhat light but not too much. Under the right conditions, water drops could form inside the chamber, which could form permanent streaks on the lens when they evaporate.
If you are going on a long trip, binoculars will be excellent entertainment for kids. You want to keep these for years to come so you might as well be comfortable.
