The third- and fourth-generation night-vision binoculars show much clearer images at night, and are priced higher that the previous generation binoculars. A simple coating was devised to prevent this, by allowing more light to pass through the lens, and less to be reflected back. Glass also has a tendency to reflect as much as five percent of the light that arrives at its surface back towards the light source.
By selecting binoculars that have a rugged construction, you are less likely to damage them through bumps or drops. Distance measuring is important, but binoculars with a wide field of view allow you to see a larger picture, and keep an eye on several objects at once. Binoculars with larger fields of view may work better, but the cost is considerably more. It is also useful in ranging an object that is not perfectly horizontal or vertical, enabling you to determine the range without tilting the entire binoculars.
The feel of your new binoculars should be somewhat light but not too much. The lower the light situation is, the more powerful night binocular you will need. If you are still in your twenties you can probably use all of that 7mm exit pupil above as your pupils will dilate to about that size in very dark conditions, however as you get older your pupil does not dilate more than about 4 to 5 mm so large exit pupils are wasted. Night vision binoculars are very comfortable to use because we are accustomed to seeing with both eyes, but they are pricey.
I tell most of my friends that they can get their Binoculars online now, however, one way I have found that helps is to contact the seller if you need more information. You will also need to buy an atlas of the sky suited for astronomy, and a guide.
